Borovets – snow, ski and night life Borovets is the oldest Bulgarian resort. All hotels are in alpine style. During the 60s and the 70s of the last century the resort grew, as there were new hotels being constructed. During that time also began the building of different winter sport facilities. Today the resort is a modern place for winter sports and relaxation. It is attracting extreme sports enthusiasts and ski maniacs from all over the world. The is the place where you can enjoy the snowy tracks during the day and sing all night in the pub paying much less for a drink then almost anywhere else in the European Union. Borovets is one of the biggest and classiest resorts of Bulgaria. It is situated on the northern ridges of the Rila Mountain, just below Musala peak. The resort is surrounded by pine forests and it has very favorable and healthy climate. It is 1230-1390 m above the sea level. The summer is comparatively cooler here, the winter mild and snowy. The snow is above 1.5 m between December and April.
The resort is a perfect spot for a holidays and winter sports practice such as alpine skiing, snowboard, biathlon etc. There are places that are for professionals but also easier terrains for beginners. Borovets hosted the Alpine Ski World Cup twice, and in 1993 the Biathlon world championship was held there. If we look at the capacity of the facilities we must admit that Borovets is Bulgaria's largest ski center. The resort offers ski tracks for alpine skiing, that are 58 km of length. The tracks for ski running are about 35 km long. The ski jumping run is 70 m high. There is also very well developed lift system serving up to 15 400 tourists an hour and delivering access to all trucks of the resort for the tourists. The artificial snow system covers an area, of more, than 200 da. The resort has luxury hotels and lodges, bungalows and villas and it is among one of the winter resorts that has very vivid night and social life. It has numerous restaurants, bars and discos, shop and beauty salons. Most of the hotels in the resort offer indoor swimming pools, sauna, spa and wellness centers, fitness, and yoga. One of the bigger hotels has bowling hall and mini-golf on the open range. There are also different opportunities for fun, such as horse ridding, jeep safari and fishing. During the summer months the people who like to be in the nature can enjoy the cool air and the peacefulness of the century old pine forests, the green grass, the variety of mountain flowers and herbs. The visitors could enjoy the snowy peaks and beautiful lakes. There are also many hiking routes that lead to different lovely places in the Rila Mountain.
